Why do I need a wetland boundary delineation?
You might need a wetland boundary delineation because there are more than 30 different types of wetlands in Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) website.
Most people cannot recognize a wetland, because not all wetlands have cattails in them. Some are not even wet all season long. These are called “seasonal wetlands”. Some wetlands can be farmed, mowed, pastured, or have been previously mechanically drained. They can be found in all types of landscapes like on the top or the side of a hill, or in a valley bottom. It does not matter where they are located or how they are currently used, they are still wetlands.
If you are unable to identify if you have a wetland on your property or project site:
- How will you or your consultant design your project to avoid the wetland so that you will be able to get the building permits?
- How will you know if the property you are looking to purchase for a home site has adequate upland area on which to build?
- How will you know if you might have to disturb a wetland area (i.e. road ditch wetland) to be able to construct an access onto the property?
These are just a few of the reasons why you may need a wetland boundary delineation to be completed by a qualified wetland specialist.
